New stress graded 4x2 timbers are fixed transversely to the top of your existing joists, allowing space for a further 100mm of top layer insulation to be installed on top of your base layer as required.
This provides a strong, safe storage area while enabling low profile plumbing and electrical cables to be left in situ.
This method reinforces your existing ceiling to allow for increased loads and access and protects the 'U' values of your insulation with very little compromise. Gives your new loft floor a very solid feel under foot - just like walking downstairs.
LOFTJOIST is designed to fully protect modern levels of roof insulation and is perfect for any house constructed since the 1960’s up to new builds. It’s a structurally engineered floor joist system used in the vast majority of all new homes where it is Building Regulations and NHBC compliant. It has fantastic load bearing capacities and will actually add rigid strength to your existing loft timbers when professionally installed by our specialist boarding carpenters.
Battened flooring is our most basic boarding system, usually best suited to garage roof spaces or similar applications where insulation isn’t required.
25mm timber battens are fixed transversely to the top of your existing joists to bridge in situ electricity cables, then 18mm thick tongue and groove loft flooring panels are screwed down onto the new battens to give you a usable storage space without compromising the structural integrity of your property.
Please note – this method of flooring does not allow for further improvement of your loft insulation at a later date.
Our flooring is 18mm thick tongue and groove chipboard panel specifically designed for loft applications. It’s robust, strong, smooth surfaced, responsibly sourced and E1 emissions compliant. All of our boarding is screwed down – we never use nails as we won’t risk damaging your ceiling finish below. Attic Alert prefers to use boarding panels of 320mm x 1220mm dimensions in order to keep to a minimum any disruption caused by moving materials through your home.
Weight capacity and loading – Our boarding material and various Sub-Floor constructions are easily capable of taking static loads in excess of 500kg per square metre and proportionate dynamic loading during testing outside of the loft environment. However, the actual loads your existing ceiling joists are capable of taking is something we can only determine at survey and we will advise you on this when quoting. In roughly 3% of surveys we will unfortunately decline to quote or undertake work if, in our judgement, your joists are not capable of bearing additional weight without compromising structural integrity.
In the vast majority of cases though our general rule of thumb is that if you can lift a box up one of our high quality ladders then our well-constructed floors will take the load!! We’ll let you know for sure at survey.
Great ideas are often simple solutions. Double your storage space in those awkward areas where modern roof truss design means access through them can be difficult. By maximising the space in the ‘V’
section of your fink truss we can provide huge amounts of light storage space that’s above your new floor and so much easier to access and organise.
This is a light storage solution only – suitcases, toys, Xmas decorations etc. Please keep the boxes of books or old vinyl well distributed on the floor.
Thank you for the great job on our loft. I’d happily recommend you to friends and family. I really like that you have all your prices set out on a price list, it made me feel that you were treating us fairly from the outset… it doesn’t always feel that way with other trades!!! You left everything so neat and tidy too. Thanks again.
Hi Jeff, wanted to quickly thank you for the recent work you carried out at our property, the extra storage that the removal of the header tank platform and fitting of shelving has given us is perfect. The fitting of the loft ladder, particularly in what was a rather precarious location and the installation of boarded flooring has made access to the loft much safer and more convenient. Your professional manner, very reasonable pricing and quality workmanship leaves no doubt in my mind that I will be recommending your services to friends and family.
Thank you for the lovely job in the loft. Particular thanks for keeping disruption in the house to such a minimum and leaving everything so clean and tidy, much appreciated.
The attic looks fantastic, thank you for such a brilliant job. Just a shame you only do loft work as otherwise I’d get you to do all the work on my house!
We offer a waste removal service should your loft be full of any unwanted items, and can price for this at survey. Attic Alert will, of course, dispose of all our material waste created as a result of the work being carried out. However, please note that this does not include any old doors, boards or random pieces of timber already residing in your loft!
We are an Environment Agency registered waste carrier.
